Associate Professor Daphne Weihs is a Professor of Biomedical Engineering at the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology since 2006. She obtained her BSc, MSc, and PhD (2004) at the Faculty of Chemical Engineering, Technion. She did her post-graduate research at the Department of Pathology and Lab Medicine, Medical School, University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA, 2004-2006).
Prof. Weihs is the President of the Israel Society of Medical and Biological Engineering (ISMBE) and has served as the head of the ISMBE Scientific Committee (2015-2019). Prof. Weihs is an Associate Editor on the editorial board of Plos One, and has served on boards other journals, such as Convergent Science Physical Oncology. She has guest edited special issues in the Journal of Biomechanics and in Convergent Science Physical Oncology. She has had Visiting Professorship at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (KU Leuven) in Belgium. Her research is funded by highly competitive governmental scientific funding agencies such as the Israel Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), the Israel Ministry of Health (MOH), and the Israel Ministry of Economics. Among her honors and awards are the Henri Gutwirth Research Grant Award, a paper featured in ‘Highlights of 2013 collection’ of New Journal of Physics, and she was chosen as one of the 50 Most Influential Women in Israel, Globes 25th Annual Listing in the supplement Lady Globes of September 2015.
Her research is focused is on mechanobiology in the contexts of cancer development and progression and wound prevention and healing.
